Baboso Negro, Vijariego Negro, and Tintilla.

Bodegas Bentayga owns 8.5 hectares of vineyards located in an exceptional setting within the Nublo Rural Park, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve for its flora, fauna, and vegetation, and within the Cultural Landscape of Risco Caído and the Sacred Mountains of Gran Canaria, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in July 2019. The vineyards are located on the slopes of the impressive Caldera de Tejeda, at altitudes between 1,050 and 1,318 meters, at the summit of the island of Gran Canaria, far from pollution. They are irrigated with water from the Mina de Tejeda spring (1,536 meters altitude), whose channeling dates back to 1500–1501. The irrigation system is computerized drip irrigation. Planting density is 4,000 vines/ha with a spacing of 2.00 x 1.5 meters, trained on trellises. Row orientation is NE–SW. The soil is volcanic, typical of the Canary Islands, combined with clay-loam. The average vineyard age is 25 years. Both the vineyard and the winery operate with an ecological mindset.

Cold winters and mild to warm, dry summers. The climate is classified as local steppe. There is little rainfall throughout the year, with an annual average of 245 mm. There is a significant temperature difference between day and night and strong seasonal contrasts—cold winters (around 3°C, sometimes with snow) and hot summers, with temperatures reaching up to 38°C. The vineyards are oriented southwest, receiving an average of 11 hours of sunlight per day. These are ideal conditions for cultivating high-quality grapes.

Manual and selective, using 20 kg boxes. Harvesting takes place during the first half of September.

Each of our grape varieties—Baboso Negro, Vijariego Negro, and Tintilla—is vinified separately. The final blend is created in French and Central European oak barrels, resulting in our medium-aged barrel-aged red wine. A second manual selection is performed on the sorting table, discarding any grapes that don’t meet the strict quality standards. Once harvested, the grapes are kept in cold storage. The process begins with destemming, followed by pre- and post-fermentation macerations, and ends with six months of barrel aging. The wine undergoes a very gentle filtration and is bottled on the estate.

6 months in oak barrels.

5,000 bottles.

A bright and lively wine, characterized by purple and violet hues framing a deep cherry-red color. On the nose, it impresses with intense aromas; initial ripe red fruits evolve into a complex symphony of floral and spicy notes with subtle hints of fine oak that do not overpower the varietal character of the blend. On the palate, it has a powerful entry, evolving into a smooth and enveloping mouthfeel, well-balanced between lively acidity and mature tannins, leaving a rich, pleasantly bitter aftertaste accompanied by lingering aromas on the palate.
